In the 1940s, Dirk van Sliedrecht started experimenting with rattan and developed several chairs that were soon picked up by the Gebroeders Jonkers furniture factory in Noordwolde. His designs are often a combination of rattan with a metal tubular frame and are distinguished by their apparent simplicity, but on closer inspection they are extremely complicated.
