DESIGN ICON! You have probably noticed this iconic sofa in various design magazines, celebrity homes & influencers via social media. The Camaleonda lounge chairs by Mario Bellini were designed 50 years ago and are still completely HOT in 2022! Mario Bellini is a well-known Italian designer from Milan and has received several design awards. He has worked with the top in the design world such as Flos, Arco, Kartell, Cassina, Vitra and of course B&B Italia. The Camaleonda was designed in the 1970s for B&B Italia (then known as C&B Italia). Designed for the MoMa show called ‘The new domestic landscape’ in 1972. It was an instant success. Bellini was known for experimenting with innovative materials & production methods. The name ‘Cameleonda’ comes from the word Chameleon (Camaleonte in Italian), which can adapt to the environment & the word ‘onda’ (wave). Both words together describe the function of the sofa. The modular elements make the sofa infinitely flexible. Despite selling well, the Cameleonda was retired in 1979 after only eight years of production. Nevertheless, the sofa would become iconic and B&B Italia has brought the design back into production in 2020. This is an original vintage model from the 1970s. It consists of two separate 1-seater modules. Together absolutely great as a ‘love seat’. The sofa still has the original upholstery and considering its age it is in a beautiful vintage condition. The bottom of the sofa has the original brand sticker. The iconic upholstery makes this piece an absolute design classic. Easy to place in an interior, together as a sofa or separately as an armchair. No further words needed, this is a must have!
